1 John 4:7-16 God Is Love
7-10 My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.
11-12 My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!
13-16 This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.
God is Love! I have heard this being said everywhere and I wonder if people really know what this really means. This three word statement is a very important promise for us to take hold of. For the last two weeks I’ve been going though something personal. My wife and I have been praying for this situation. And it all has to do with love, and love for others, and love for those who don’t want to be loved. So like always we turn to the Lord in prayer. As I struggled this week the lord led me to 1 John 4. As I read I began to see my answer was right there. John is telling us and urging us to love one another. As I sat back in awe I immediately said, “But God look at how I’m being treated by these who don’t want to be loved, “it’s not fair.” Then I look back at his word then read, “For love is from God”. WOW! First verse I read with only 11 of the most powerful words. I then began to see the sin in me, of hate, bitterness, the spirit of revenge. These are the things God words tells us to stay away from. These are sinful feelings and if I claim to be a Christian, then these things I can not poses in my heart. You see our heart is where Christ lives. The Bible says in, Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. As a follower of Christ (that’s what Christian means) my life is supposed to reflect Jesus in the actions of my life. Like Christ we are to be humble, we are to pray for and love our enemies, and to submit ourselves to the Lord, and live our lives in the spirit, and most of all we are to “Put God First”. That my friend is the formula for “Real Love”. Real love is showing love even when it’s hard. Being humble is not arrogant or prideful, but the humble life is marked with meekness or modesty. You see Real Love shown by Christ was given his own life on the cross for the sin I have. If we do not Love the bible says We do not know God! Simple this is why “God is Love” He showed his love on the cross, and because of this “Real Love” comes from God, and this Love in us we in turn should bestow on others. Jesus’ love was never filled with hate, it never looked for revenge, it never looked to ge even, and when the were beating Jesus he still loved them. When they were hanging him on the cross by three nails, He prayed, Father forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. Facing death on the cross Jesus last action on this earth was to show love to others. Some of us go through life not loving others and John is calling ans urging us to look at the life of Jesus as an example fur us to follow. Today show “Real Love” even when it’s hard.
Pray: God thank you for being a great and awesome God. Your love penetrates eve the most hardest heart. Today fill our hearts with your Real Love. Help me to radiate your love and not our own. So when others see me I pray they see you living in me.
