[ Listening and Doing ] My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
I remember when I was younger how my mom would always ask me to get something from her room. Be for she could finish her sentence I was off looking for what she asked for. For example she would say “please go bring me my brush…”, when i heard brush I was gone. When I would return with the brush she would say “where are my slippers, I said my brush and my slippers”? She would get so mad at me because I would not listen to what she was telling me. As a child I did that so much, and as an adult and because we live in a sociality today that everything is “Fast” even more so, my reactions are quick and on the fly. There has been many opportunities I have missed where God has tried to bless me or a better opportunity for me in my spiritual life. Many blessings I missed because I have spoken too soon or my reactions were too quick when I should have looked the Lord for the answers. James tells us to be quick to listen. We are so quick to not listen but quick to react, we are so wired that way to become reactive. It’s like we are always on guard and that’s ok but when we need to seek the Lord in all things. In our decisions, so many times we make decisions on our own when we should seek God’s great Wisdom. Psalms 14:2, “The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God”. We are to be quick to listen, God has so many plans for us and we sometimes don’t allow Him to work in our life. We should be slow to speak and slow to become angry. Wow, do I need to work on that! I’m reminded when I should have been slow to speak and slow to be angry, and I learn when it’s too late. Let us not ever get to the point of “Too Late” or “There’s No Turning Back” because once we said it or do it, because asking for forgiveness hurts. God is our greatest example. In Psalms 86:15, “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness”. We should in faithfulness be abounding in love for one another, slow to anger, slow to speak, always listening for God to direct us in everything. Today i pray you allow God to work in your life today. Be slow to speak , and slow to anger knowing God is going to bless us with Love and Faithfulness.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Pray: God you are the one we should seek everyday in our lives. You are a Great, Shining example of how we as your children should live our life. Help me today to be slow to speak, and slow to anger, but listening with all attention to your direction in our lives. You are a great God, and we love you . Amen.
